Colorado Father Convicted in Toddler's Fentanyl Death

Alonzo Montoya found guilty of child abuse and racketeering after his 22-month-old daughter ingested lethal dose of fentanyl in drug-dealing home.

Alonzo Montoya, a 33-year-old Colorado man, has been found guilty of child abuse resulting in death, racketeering, and other charges after his 22-month-old daughter, Aviyana Montoya, died from ingesting fentanyl.
Aviyana had 10 times the lethal dose of fentanyl in her system, an amount sufficient to kill an adult, and was also exposed to amphetamines and other narcotics.
Home surveillance footage revealed that Aviyana was left unchecked in her crib for nearly 14 hours, during which she was seen crying and struggling to breathe.
Montoya was running a drug-dealing operation from his home, with surveillance footage showing drug dealing and usage before, during, and after Aviyana's death.
Aviyana's mother, Nicole Danielle Casias, faces the same charges and is set for a jury trial on March 11.
