Colorado Begins Mailing Ballots for Nov. 4 Election Focused on School Meals Funding

Two statewide measures tied to Healthy School Meals financing lead the off-year ballot, including one that would limit deductions for high earners.

Overview

  • County clerks started sending mail ballots Friday, and voters can return them by mail, drop box or at voting centers until 7 p.m. on Nov. 4.
  • Proposition MM would raise about $95 million annually by capping state income tax deductions at $1,000 for single filers and $2,000 for joint filers with federal taxable income of $300,000 or more.
  • Proposition LL would authorize the state to retain and spend $12.4 million already collected for the Healthy School Meals for All program that otherwise would be refunded under TABOR.
  • Key dates include an Oct. 17 deadline for counties to finish mailing ballots, Oct. 20 for ballot counting to begin, Oct. 28 for required drop boxes to open, and polls operating 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 4.
  • Local ballots feature Denver’s five-measure $950 million “Vibrant Bond” package for roughly 60 capital projects and five Aurora City Council seats up for election.
