Overview

  • A contagious out-of-state traveler was at the Monarch Mountain at the Crest Gift Shop on July 25 from 4:30 to 7 p.m., potentially exposing attendees to measles
  • The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and Chaffee County Public Health confirmed the exposure and issued notifications to those present during the visit
  • Potentially exposed individuals should monitor for fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes or rash through August 15 and avoid large gatherings for 21 days after July 25
  • Colorado normally reports two or fewer measles cases annually but has already confirmed 16 cases this year, four of which required hospitalization
  • Officials emphasize that two doses of the MMR vaccine provide about 97 percent protection against measles and urge residents to verify their immunization status
