Colorado Adds 500 Jobs in September as Unemployment Slips to 4.1%

Falling labor‑force participation complicates assessment of the state’s cooling job market.

Overview

  • The September report shows a net gain of 500 nonfarm jobs as the unemployment rate edged down to 4.1%, while labor-force participation slipped to 67.3%, the lowest since November 2020.
  • Private employers shed an estimated 200 jobs as government payrolls grew by 700, underscoring a split between public and private hiring.
  • Monthly sector moves included gains in professional and business services (+1,700) and other services (+1,000), offset by declines in trade, transportation and utilities (−2,100) and construction (−1,000).
  • Revisions lifted combined July–August growth to 5,700 from an initial 3,000, and Colorado has added a net 18,100 jobs over the past year, roughly tracking a University of Colorado outlook.
  • A federal shutdown delayed the release, the October household survey was not conducted, and the state expects to publish November figures on Dec. 16.
