Colombian Navy Seizes 'Narco-Sub' Carrying $27M Worth of Cocaine

Three arrested as first narco-sub of 2024 intercepted en route to US or Europe.

The Colombian Navy intercepted a 'narco-sub' carrying approximately 800kg of cocaine, estimated to be worth $27 million.
The semi-submersible vessel, the first to be detected this year, was believed to be en route to the US or Europe.
Three individuals aboard the vessel have been arrested and the drugs were transported to Buenaventura, a Colombian port city.
The cocaine packages were marked with a scorpion symbol or labelled 'Winnie' and 'Carnal'.
Narco-subs, often homemade and constructed from fibreglass and plywood, are a popular method for drug smuggling due to their ability to go largely undetected.
