Colombian Fish Trader Indicted for Murders of Journalist and Indigenous Expert in Amazon

Brazilian police have charged Ruben Dario da Silva Villar as the mastermind behind the 2022 killings of Dom Phillips and Bruno Pereira.

Da Silva Villar allegedly supplied ammunition and helped conceal the bodies, denying any involvement in the crime.
The murders were reportedly motivated by Pereira's efforts to protect the Javari Valley Indigenous Territories from illegal fishing.
Nine individuals have been indicted in connection with the case, with two suspects set to face trial by jury.
Pereira was aiding Phillips in research for a book on the Amazon, highlighting environmental and Indigenous rights issues.
