Cologne Marathon Sets Entry Record as Half Marathon Course Mark Falls

Extensive road closures with adjusted public transport define the day.

  • Organizers reported 37,053 registrations, a new high and more than 21% above last year.
  • Germany’s Esther Pfeiffer won the half marathon in 1:07:28, breaking the 2008 course record and moving to third on the German all-time list.
  • The half marathon began at 8:30 from Köln-Deutz and the marathon set off at 10:30, with Mayor Henriette Reker giving the start.
  • The field features 15 African elites, including Kenyans Risper Chebet, Faith Chepkoech, Jonathan Maiyo and Douglas Chebii, who are in contention to improve last year’s winning times.
