Overview
- The AFL and MCG have barred a Collingwood member from all AFL and MCG events for five years after they sent a text to the venue’s anti-social behaviour hotline threatening Carlton coach Michael Voss.
- Tony Keane, head of AFL Integrity and Security, confirmed the message referenced a “brutal end” to Voss’s life and was traced back to the Collingwood member following Carlton’s 56-point loss on July 4.
- Voss condemned the threat as unacceptable and said fans who equate passion with anger “don’t belong here,” while Brisbane coach Chris Fagan called the abuse “pretty average” and urged respect for coaching peers.
- Carlton is considering enhanced security measures for its coach and staff at upcoming games as the Blues sit 6–10 and 12th on the ladder, effectively out of finals contention.
- An incoming CEO and a planned off-season review of football operations will assess coaching and list management after Carlton’s back-to-back finals appearances in 2023 and 2024.
