College Student on Alaskan Adventure Perishes After Getting Stuck in Mud Flats

Zachary Porter, an Illinois college student, drowned after getting stuck waist-deep in quicksand-like silt in Turnagain Arm, an Alaskan estuary known for its dangerous mud flats.
Porter's friends called 911 but rescuers were unable to free him before the incoming tide submerged him.
