Overview
- On June 10, soldiers and musicians of the Coldstream Guards traveled by LNER train from King’s Cross to Berwick-upon-Tweed for a commemorative parade.
- Dressed in scarlet tunics and bearskin caps, they marched through town before attending a Service of Thanksgiving at Berwick Parish Church.
- Colonel of the Regiment Lieutenant General Sir James Bucknall and Berwick’s mayor joined the troops for an inspection and civic reception at the Guildhall.
- Berwick Parish Church still preserves the regiment’s original Colours and the town granted the Guards the Freedom of the Town in 2000.
- Having returned from Operation Shader in the Middle East, the Guards are set to serve on a UN peacekeeping mission in Cyprus later this year and were among the first British units to train Ukrainian troops in the UK.
