- 52 sea turtles, suffering from a condition known as cold stun due to frigid waters in New England, were flown to Florida for rehabilitation.
- 13 of these turtles, now given holiday-themed names, are being treated at Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach.
- The New England Aquarium had been overwhelmed with more than 200 sea turtles experiencing cold stun, prompting the transfer to Florida.
- Florida has seen a record number of sea turtle nests this year, with over 133,840 loggerhead turtle nests and at least 76,500 green turtle nests.
- High sea turtle nest numbers have also been reported in South Carolina, Alabama, North Carolina and Georgia, although not all set records like Florida.
