Cold Snap Pushes Seoul Below Freezing as South Korea Issues Cold-Wave Alerts

  • Strong winds drove the capital’s perceived temperature to about minus 5.9 C.
  • Inland and mountainous areas were far colder, including minus 12.1 C at Hyangno Peak and around minus 8 C in northern Gyeonggi.
  • Cold-wave advisories were issued for several inland regions, including Gangwon, North Gyeongsang, northern North Chungcheong and Busan.
  • The KMA forecast daytime highs of roughly 4–11 C with gusts near 55 kph, localized rain or snow on the west coast and Jeju, and a return toward seasonal averages after Thursday.
