Overview
- The South African Weather Service has issued three warnings, including a Yellow Level 4 for disruptive rain and Yellow Level 2 alerts for damaging winds and waves, as the cold front is due to make landfall on Sunday, 28 June.
- SAWS and the City of Cape Town expect scattered to widespread rain with most areas receiving 15–25mm and the City of Cape Town and Cape Winelands possibly seeing 30–60mm of rain.
- Forecasters warn strong gusts could create hazardous conditions for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and that rough seas will affect navigation between Cape Columbine and Cape Agulhas from Sunday into Monday.
- City of Cape Town Disaster Risk Management and partner services are on standby and have told residents to clear gutters and drains, check and secure roofs, tie down loose items, and use the Corporate Call Centre 0860 103 089 for non-urgent requests or 021 480 7700 for life-or-property emergencies.
- The main risks to watch are flooded low-lying roads and homes, water ingress in informal settlements and transport disruption, which could trigger localized rescue operations and temporary road closures if heavy rain and strong winds materialise.
