Cold Front Brings Snow to Northern Mexico as Peru Issues Red Cold Alert and Argentina Warns of Severe Storms

  • Mexico’s Conagua reports Cold Front 18 over the north and northeast this weekend with heavy rain and mountain snow or sleet in Sonora, Sinaloa, Durango, Chihuahua and Coahuila, and minimums down to around −16 °C in high terrain.
  • Forecasts detail scattered to strong showers across wide regions from Dec. 5–7 and dawn frosts in the northern highlands, while parts of the south and southeast remain hot with highs reaching 35–40 °C.
  • Peru’s Senamhi activates Red Alert No. 434 for nighttime cold from Dec. 6–8 covering Lima and multiple Andean regions, with expected minimums near 2 °C in the north sierra, around −4 to −6 °C in the central highlands and close to −10 °C in the southern highlands.
  • Lima is set for overcast mornings, fog and light drizzle through Dec. 6–9 with minimums near 16–18 °C in the west and 14–15 °C in the east, alongside breezy afternoons and brief midday sun breaks inland.
  • Argentina’s SMN maintains yellow alerts Dec. 5–7 for isolated strong thunderstorms across Buenos Aires and several provinces, warning of frequent lightning, possible hail, heavy short‑period rain and localized wind gusts above 70 km/h.
