Overview
- Mexico’s weather service says Cold Front 15, reinforced by a polar trough, cyclonic circulation and the polar and subtropical jet streams, is driving a marked temperature drop, 60–80 km/h gusts and showers, with snow or sleet in the sierras of Baja California, Sonora and Chihuahua, extending at night toward northern Sinaloa and Durango.
- Minimums of −10 to −5 °C with frost are forecast in mountain zones of Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua and Durango, with colder mornings across the north and central highlands; some Mexico City boroughs are expected to bottom out near 10–12 °C.
- Authorities warn that heavy rain may cause ponding, landslides and rising streams, while strong gusts could topple trees and light structures; the Pacific coast of Baja California faces 1.5–2.5 m seas and reduced visibility from dust in open terrain.
- Argentina’s meteorological agency maintains yellow wind alerts for La Pampa, Neuquén, Río Negro, Mendoza, Chubut and Tierra del Fuego, with gusts locally reaching 70–90 km/h and blowing dust; local offices in Mendoza and Neuquén flag continued strong winds into Thursday.
- Outlook for the week includes increased rainfall from Pacific moisture and low-pressure channels across much of Mexico, and a new front projected to approach the northwest around Friday that could renew cold, wind and high‑terrain snow chances in Baja California and Sonora.
