- George Legere, 77, was discovered unresponsive at the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield and was pronounced dead at a hospital around 12:15 a.m. Saturday.

- Legere was arrested last month in connection with the 1973 stabbing death of 21-year-old Janet Couture in East Hartford’s Mayberry Village.
- Investigators reported that DNA collected after a 2019 incarceration in Massachusetts matched a national database sample linking him to the attack.
- He was serving a 25-year sentence and had also been arrested in 2021 in a separate 1984 kidnapping and sexual assault case.
