Overview
- Coinbase completed its integration of Deribit and formally created Coinbase Global Exchange, a single platform that connects spot, futures, perpetuals, options and equities trading.
- A migration of Coinbase’s international exchange users onto Deribit’s infrastructure was finished on October 1, 2026, and the legacy platform was set to read-only as part of that move.
- Coinbase announced at Token2049 on October 6, 2026 that it will relaunch Coinbase Pro by the end of 2026 as the high-volume trading interface for the new exchange.
- New product features being rolled out include spot margin trading with up to 10x leverage on major assets and up to 5x on others, while institutional options and perpetuals access is opening first through Coinbase Prime and Coinbase Financial Markets.
- The deal builds on Coinbase’s August 2025 purchase of Deribit for about $2.9 billion and Deribit’s scale — over $30 billion in bitcoin options open interest and more than $1 trillion in annual trading volume — which could shift how regulated U.S. clients access global derivatives and increase competition for leveraged traders.
