Coinbase Launches 1:1 Tokenized U.S. Stocks on Base

It pairs Abu Dhabi–based regulated custody with Chainlink price oracles to let eligible international users trade, lend, or use shares inside Base DeFi.

Overview

  • Coinbase issued tokenized stocks on Base on Monday, minting B20 tokens that represent 1:1 beneficial claims on Apple, Nvidia, Meta and Alphabet shares.
  • The tokens are issued by Coinbase Onchain SPV Ltd. under Abu Dhabi Global Market prospectuses and the underlying shares are held in a bankruptcy‑remote custody arrangement with Alpaca.
  • Coinbase selected Chainlink Data Feeds to supply continuous on‑chain pricing and a Coinbase multiplier is used to reflect dividends and corporate actions inside DeFi applications.
  • Eligible non‑U.S. users can trade these tokens 24/7, supply them to liquidity pools, or use them as collateral on protocols such as Aerodrome and Aave, but access is restricted by prospectus rules, identity checks, withholding tax and fees.
  • The launch raises the stakes for tokenized real‑world assets as rivals expand similar products and it prompts fresh questions about cross‑jurisdictional protections, liquidity risks when markets close, and how tokenized equities will plug into traditional market plumbing.
