Coinbase Completes Deribit Integration and Says Coinbase Pro Will Return by Year-End

The company says the move creates a regulated path for U.S. institutions to access global derivatives liquidity through Coinbase Financial Markets, with staged rollouts of options, spot margin, and retail access later in 2026.

Overview

  • Coinbase announced the Deribit integration was finished on October 6 and said it has combined the business into a new Coinbase Global Exchange, with a rebuilt Coinbase Pro scheduled to launch by the end of 2026.
  • Eligible U.S. institutional clients can begin onboarding through Coinbase Financial Markets and Coinbase Prime, and Coinbase expects Deribit-powered options and perpetuals to start trading for those clients in the coming weeks.
  • Coinbase completed a key migration step on October 1 when Coinbase International Exchange accounts, balances, and positions were moved to Deribit and the legacy platform was switched to read-only.
  • The revived platform will unify spot, futures, perpetuals, options, and equities and add spot margin with leverage up to 10x on select major assets and up to 5x on other supported assets, plus faster order routing and a rebuilt matching engine.
  • Deribit brings large scale to the plan—Coinbase cites more than $30 billion in bitcoin options open interest and over $1 trillion in prior-year volume—and the rollout will be watched for technical integration, cross-border regulatory compliance, and how staged access meets trader demand.
