Overview
- Cohere publicly rolled out North 2 on Monday as an upgrade that turns its North product from a generative chatbot into an agent platform that can run longer, multi-step workflows.
- North 2 adds persistent memory so agents retain context across sessions, shared libraries for reusable knowledge and versioned custom agents plus analytics and evaluation tools for builders.
- The platform is designed to run inside customer infrastructure, including on-premises and air-gapped setups, and Cohere says it can operate on as few as two GPUs while meeting standards such as GDPR and SOC-2.
- Cohere positions North 2 as model-agnostic and governed by new admin roles and controls that limit agent actions, require human gates for critical steps, and monitor usage to contain cost and sprawl.
- The company is pitching the release to regulated enterprises — citing customers such as Bell, LG CNS, Dell and RBC — and is pursuing a merger with Aleph Alpha to strengthen its European reach as it competes with larger U.S. vendors.
