Overview
- COFEPRIS issued a risk alert on August 4 directing Colgate-Palmolive to withdraw the Total Prevención Activa Clean Mint toothpaste from sale across Mexico in response to reports of oral irritation, gum inflammation and ulcers.
- The recall applies solely to the Clean Mint variant; other Colgate Total products remain unaffected.
- Consumers are instructed to halt use immediately, return any remaining tubes to Colgate-Palmolive and report adverse reactions via the COFEPRIS email or the VigiRam platform.
- Similar bans or recalls have been enacted by ANMAT in Argentina, Anvisa in Brazil, Invima in Colombia and Proconsumidor in the Dominican Republic after thousands of complaints.
- Authorities and Colgate-Palmolive continue to investigate which ingredient—potentially a flavoring agent or tin-based compound—is triggering the adverse reactions.
