Overview
- The victim, identified as Sanjay Dattaram Bhoir of Panju Island, died on Sunday after being struck on Saturday while walking on the railway bridge toward Naigaon.
- Officials said the coconut was reportedly part of nirmalya thrown from a passing local train toward the creek and hit Bhoir on the head between his ear and eye.
- Bhoir was first treated at Sir DM Petit Hospital in Vasai and was later shifted to JJ Hospital in Mumbai, where he succumbed during treatment.
- He was using the bridge as an alternative route because boat service from Panju Island was suspended due to bad weather, according to officials.
- The Vasai GRP says it is registering a case and has begun efforts to identify the person responsible, as residents demand a ban and strict action to curb such dumping from trains.
