• Gauff won 7-6 (5), 6-2 after a tearful, error-strewn first set, then reset in a locker-room break and held serve throughout a much cleaner second set with just one double fault.
• In the opener she double-faulted seven times and was broken four times but clawed back both times Vekic served for the set before taking the tiebreak.
• Her serving issues remain a season-long theme; she split with coach Matt Daly just before the tournament and brought in MacMillan to rework her motion, having led the tour in double faults this year.
