Coca-Cola Recalls Topo Chico Water Over Bacteria Concerns

The precautionary recall follows detection of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in select 16.9-ounce glass bottles, which poses a threat to people with weakened immune systems.

Overview

  • Coca-Cola announced on June 2 that it is voluntarily recalling Topo Chico Mineral Water 16.9-ounce glass bottles sold in 18-packs after tests indicated potential Pseudomonas aeruginosa contamination.
  • Products purchased between May 20 and May 29 at select Costco warehouses in Texas and Louisiana have been removed from shelves at 40 retail locations across Arizona, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas.
  • Affected cases and bottle necks bear lot code #13A2541 and have been pulled from store shelves.
  • No illnesses have been reported and health risks are considered very low for healthy consumers, though the bacterium can cause serious infections in people with weakened immune systems.
  • Consumers may return recalled Topo Chico packs to Costco for a full refund and can call Coca-Cola at 1-800-GET-COKE with any questions.
