Coastal Low to Bring Rain and Gusty Winds to Mid-Atlantic and Northeast Sunday Night Into Monday

Forecasters expect the worst conditions at the shoreline, where tidal flooding, beach erosion and stronger gusts are most likely.

Overview

  • The steadiest, most widespread rain is expected Sunday night into Monday, likely making Monday morning commutes wet in many areas.
  • Rainfall will be lighter inland at roughly 0.3 to 1.0 inches, with higher totals around 1 to 2 inches or more closer to and east of the I-95 corridor and along the coast.
  • Northeast wind gusts will commonly reach 25 to 30 mph inland, with 30 to 50 mph gusts possible at the beaches.
  • Coastal hazards include moderate to locally major tidal flooding and beach erosion, with the most significant impacts confined to immediate shoreline communities.
  • The system should pull away Tuesday with lingering breezes and a cooler, raw Monday near 60 degrees in spots; separately, Tropical Storm Gerry is tracking east of Bermuda with minimal U.S. impact.
