Coastal Flood Warning in Effect for San Francisco Bay as King Tides Peak

Exceptional tides combined with storm surge could push water up to 2.5 feet above ground in low-lying areas.

Overview

  • The National Weather Service warning covers the North Bay interior valleys, the San Francisco Bay shoreline, and San Francisco County from 7 a.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday.
  • Forecasts call for morning high-tide inundation Friday and Saturday, with San Francisco gauge peaks near 8.0 feet MLLW Friday, 8.3 feet Saturday, and 7.7 feet Sunday that include up to about 1.3 feet of storm-surge contribution.
  • A separate coastal flood advisory remains in effect through 2 p.m. Sunday for the Pacific coast from Sonoma County to Monterey County, including Monterey Bay, with flooding expected in lots, parks, and roads.
  • Local advisories note tide timing differences between the open coast and bays, with high water arriving earlier along the Pacific beaches and later inside San Francisco Bay.
  • NWS offices also issued coastal flood warnings for parts of Washington and Oregon, including the Clatsop and Tillamook Coast, South Washington Coast, and Coos Bay and estuaries, where minor flooding up to about one foot is possible.
