Overview

• The 62-foot Discovery sent a mayday around 12:45 p.m. after producing smoke and losing propulsion near the coastal bar at Yaquina Bay.
• Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay launched two lifeboats and arrived on scene within about eight minutes.
• Responders secured the vessel alongside a rescue boat and towed it to its moorage, arriving around 1:30 p.m.
• Newport firefighters inspected the boat and found no fire hazard as 49 passengers and crew disembarked without medical emergencies.
