Coast Guard Rescues Person Off Falmouth During Nor’easter After Ferry Sighting

Police are investigating how the person entered the water.

Overview

  • Passengers and crew on the Steamship Authority’s M/V Island Home reported a person in the water near Woods Hole around 3:19–3:30 p.m.
  • A Coast Guard helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod located the individual off Nobska Point at about 4:25 p.m. and deployed a rescue swimmer.
  • The person was hoisted into the aircraft, flown to Joint Base Cape Cod, and then transported by EMS to Falmouth Hospital for exposure treatment.
  • Officials reported the individual was in stable condition with no serious injuries Monday evening.
  • Rough seas and low visibility from a nor’easter complicated an approximately hour-long search that involved local fire, police, and Environmental Police units.
