Overview

  • Samudra Prachet is the second and last vessel in Goa Shipyard Limited’s two-ship indigenous Pollution Control Vessel series, completing the programme begun with Samudra Pratap in August 2024.
  • The 114.5-metre, 4,170-tonne ship will be crewed by 14 officers and 115 sailors and is advancing toward formal commissioning.
  • It features two side-sweeping arms, modern radar for slick detection, full-spectrum oil recovery systems, onboard pollutant analysis and dedicated oil storage tanks.
  • Over 72 percent of its components are sourced from domestic suppliers, bolstering local MSME involvement, job creation and the Atmanirbhar Bharat shipbuilding initiative.
  • Once commissioned, the pair of vessels will enable faster, more effective oil-spill management across India’s Exclusive Economic Zone, reinforcing maritime environmental security.
