Coast Guard Cutter Diligence Offloads 8,700 Pounds of Cocaine in St. Petersburg

The operation capped a 57-day JIATF-S patrol designed to disrupt cartel financing.

Overview

  • The crew offloaded about 8,700 pounds of cocaine worth an estimated $64.5 million at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg on Monday and transferred the shipment to case agents.
  • The cocaine came from a Sep. 6 interdiction of a go-fast panga about 240 miles north of Panama in international waters.
  • Earlier in the patrol, crews seized 1,500 pounds of marijuana on Aug. 7 near Negril, Jamaica, later transferred to Cutter Hamilton and offloaded at Port Everglades as part of a record haul.
  • Diligence interdicted more than 10,000 pounds of illicit narcotics during the Western Caribbean deployment.
  • Officials said the mission, conducted under JIATF-S and Coast Guard District Southeast, targets high-seas smuggling networks that help enable fentanyl trafficking.
