Overview
- ICGS Akshar is the second of eight Adamya-class fast patrol vessels built by Goa Shipyard Limited with more than 60 percent indigenous content.
- The ship will be based at Karaikal under Coast Guard Region (East) through District Headquarters No. 13 for coastal surveillance and anti-smuggling missions.
- Commandant (JG) Subhendu Chakraborty leads a complement of five officers and 33 personnel aboard the newly commissioned vessel.
- The 320-tonne craft features twin 3,000 kW diesel engines for speeds up to 27 knots and an endurance of 1,500 nautical miles, with indigenously developed controllable pitch propellers.
- Armament and systems include a 30 mm CRN91 gun, two 12.7 mm stabilised remote-controlled machine guns, and integrated bridge, platform, and automated power management systems.
