Overview

• A barge struck a youth sailboat between Monument and Hibiscus islands around 11:15 a.m. on July 28, capsizing the vessel carrying five children and a counselor.
• Two of the children were later pronounced dead at Jackson Memorial Hospital, two remain in critical condition and the fifth child and counselor were stable or did not require hospitalization.
