Coaching Inn Group Tops Which? Rankings as Britannia Named Worst for 12th Year

The new consumer survey signals a reshuffle on value, with J D Wetherspoon earning a Great Value endorsement as Premier Inn loses its Recommended Provider label.

Overview

  • Which? reported the Coaching Inn Group led large chains with an 81% customer score, winning five stars for customer service and for descriptions matching reality.
  • J D Wetherspoon was named a Which? Recommended Provider and awarded a Great Value badge, scoring 76% with typical stays costing about £70 a night.
  • Premier Inn slipped to a 73% customer score and lost its Recommended Provider status, and a spokesperson said the chain is investing in beds, amenities and menus following feedback.
  • Britannia finished last for the twelfth consecutive year with a 44% score and one-star ratings for bedrooms and bathrooms, and some sites such as the International Hotel at Canary Wharf are being used for asylum accommodation that has drawn protests.
  • The rankings are based on surveys conducted in June and July of 4,631 people for large chains and 1,776 for smaller ones, combining satisfaction, likelihood to recommend and reported average nightly prices.
