COA Uses Lochem Hotel for Status Holders as Ter Apel Exceeds Capacity Again

Lochem officials say they were told late about the temporary placement.

Overview

  • Up to 80 status holders, including families with children, began moving into Hotel Paasberg in Lochem this week under a COA arrangement running through the end of the year.
  • The municipality says it was not involved in the decision, reports feeling taken by surprise, and notes it has no legal power to block the placement.
  • Hotel Paasberg previously housed 65 unaccompanied minors who have moved to the Ampsenseweg site, which currently hosts those AMV’s and is intended to expand to 250 places.
  • During an interpellation debate, the alderman acknowledged process failures over the Ampsenseweg agreement, offered an apology, and agreed to provide annual evaluations, while a motion of censure was voted down.
  • Ter Apel’s registration center rose above the 2,000-person limit again, lifting COA’s accruing court-ordered penalty to €750,000, with regional reporting indicating pressure may ease when emergency capacity at Biddinghuizen reopens later this month.
