Co-op to Open 50 Stores Before Christmas in £200m High-Street Push

The retailer links the rollout to a call for business-rates reform to give investors and planners certainty.

Overview

  • Openings and re-openings scheduled for November and December lift 2024/25 store projects to more than 200 as part of an investment exceeding £200 million.
  • Fourteen sites are brand new, including the first permanent retailer at Brent Cross Town in London, five micro-format On The Go outlets, and a franchise at Lancaster University.
  • The remaining stores are returning after extensive refurbishments with updated layouts and ranges.
  • Each location will offer member price savings, parcel collection, and rapid delivery via Co-op’s online shop and partners Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats.
  • The expansion continues as Co-op manages the fallout from an April cyber attack that it says cut earnings by about £120 million and sales by roughly £206 million, alongside renewed lobbying for business-rates reform ahead of the Autumn Budget.
