Co-op Opens £3.5m Community Fund for Local Charities

Member-controlled grants let grassroots groups apply for funding to tackle local needs.

Overview

  • The Co-op launched the current application round on Monday and is inviting charities and community groups to apply for a share of the £3.5 million pot through 24 June 2026.
  • Funding is aimed at projects that improve access to food, support mental wellbeing, create opportunities for young people, promote community cohesion, or build sustainable futures.
  • Co-op members both finance the scheme and help choose beneficiaries by selecting causes through the Co-op membership app.
  • The programme has run since 2016 and, supported by member contributions, says it has helped about 40,000 local causes across the UK and is backed by a co-op of more than seven million members.
  • Groups can apply and find full guidance at coop.co.uk/causes which could increase local services such as food aid, youth activities, and mental health support if successful applications win grants.
