CNTE Secures Teacher Reimbursements, Plans July 17 March Over Unresolved Reform Demands

A nationwide planning session in Oaxaca will follow to outline further action if core pension and evaluation reforms remain unaddressed

Overview

  • The pact secures reimbursement of salary deductions for over 12,000 teachers in mid-August and 2,500-peso ‘desarrollo docente’ compensation in September and October.
  • CNTE sections 9, 10, 11 and 60 will march from the SEP’s administrative offices on Calle Xocongo to the Zócalo on July 17 to deliver a petition to President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
  • The union has tied the opening of the 2025-2026 school year to government action on its demands for deep structural reforms.
  • Core reform demands include rescinding the 2007 ISSSTE pension law, removing the Unidad de Medida y Actualización as a pension metric and abolishing the SICAMM teacher evaluation system.
  • Delegates will convene in Oaxaca on July 18 to strategize nationwide strikes and protests if the government’s response fails to satisfy these demands.
