Overview
- CNN’s KFile reported that E.J. Antoni operated a now-deleted Twitter/X account from 2015 to 2020 that posted sexually explicit attacks on Kamala Harris, slurs against gay people, and conspiratorial content under aliases including @PhDofbombsaway.
- CNN said it verified that the posts and aliases traced to the same account with biographical details matching Antoni, and Wired previously linked the account to Antoni while documenting election-denial and Covid conspiracy posts.
- Surveillance footage reviewed by NBC shows Antoni on the Capitol grounds on January 6, 2021; the White House says he was a bystander and available evidence does not place him inside the building.
- The White House defended the nomination, asserting Antoni was chosen to fix perceived problems at the BLS and to modernize data collection, and it did not rebut the reporting on past posts when asked for comment.
- Antoni’s nomination remains before the Senate HELP Committee without a scheduled hearing, where he is expected to face questions about the reported posts, his Jan. 6 presence, and interest in shifting away from monthly jobs reports as BLS operates under acting leadership.
