CND Closes Bellas Artes Run With World Premiere by Juliano Nunes and Five International Voices

The concentrated program highlights range and renewal through condensed stagings that push the company’s movement vocabulary.

Overview

  • The Compañía Nacional de Danza concludes its Coreógrafos Internacionales program today after performances on August 29 and 30 at the Palacio de Bellas Artes.
  • The lineup features five works, including the world premiere of Gratidão created for the company by Juliano Nunes.
  • Nacho Duato’s Gnawa, the longest piece on the bill at about 20 minutes, anchors a program that also includes Ricardo Amarante, Arshak Ghalumyan, and James B. Whiteside.
  • Selections are shown in shortened versions, with Whiteside presenting a fragment from the first part of New American Romance and Amarante offering the final duet from Love, Fear, Loss with live piano.
  • Ghalumyan’s Mare crisium runs about 10 minutes with a female cast, as CND artistic director Érick Rodríguez frames the series as a way to connect global choreographers with the company’s dancers.
