CNBV Revokes CAME’s License, Triggering Liquidation and Payouts

Payments of up to 25,000 UDIs through the Sofipo protection fund will cover 99.5% of depositors with a 180‑day window to file claims.

Overview

  • The revocation, adopted by the CNBV board on September 19 and published in the Diario Oficial on September 22, leaves CAME unable to operate and formally in dissolution and liquidation.
  • Eligible savers can submit claims at www.fondodeproteccion.mx or designated centers, providing identification and deposit documentation, with case review by the liquidator in 15 business days and the Protection Committee in 20.
  • Validated claims are to be paid within 80 calendar days, with a coverage cap of 25,000 UDIs (about 219,000 pesos) per person and payments funded by PROSOFIPO rather than public resources.
  • Authorities estimate 169,564 depositors—more than 99.5%—will be reimbursed, while roughly 850 people with balances above the insured limit remain exposed.
  • CAME was intervened in June for severe capital shortfalls that put it in NICAP category 4, and some depositors have since filed legal actions alleging the regulator acted too late.
