CMRS Grants Conditional Clearance for Bengaluru Metro Pink Line Elevated Stretch

Conditional approval allows automated GoA2 running with capped speeds plus a month of monitored operations, pushing Namma Metro past 100 km

Overview

  • The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety granted conditional safety clearance on Wednesday for the 7.38–7.5 km elevated Kalena Agrahara–Tavarekere stretch, a six‑station section that will take Namma Metro to about 103.6 km once open.
  • The CMRS order permits Grade of Automation 2 (GoA2) passenger operations at up to 80 km per hour or the limit set by the Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system and limits platform speeds.
  • Speed trials on October 27 using a special train fitted with an OMS 2000 system reached up to 90 km per hour during testing, which informed the CMRS decision.
  • BMRCL and state ministers say the corridor is ready to carry passengers but are awaiting a Government of India date for formal inauguration; the chief minister named November 15 as a possible visit by the prime minister but that date has not been confirmed by central officials.
  • Earlier CMRS inspections had flagged about 36 issues including fire safety, lifts, earthing and testing; BMRCL submitted compliance documents and the CMRS has required close monitoring during the first month of revenue service and a detailed report on observations and corrective actions.
