CMRS Clears Bengaluru Pink Line Elevated Stretch for Passenger Service

The conditional order sets technical speed limits and requires staff training plus one month of close monitoring that will shape how the six‑station corridor begins revenue service.

Overview

  • The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety on Wednesday authorised the 7.38–7.5 km elevated double‑line between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere for passenger operations and approved 750V DC traction for the section.
  • A special test train reached 90 km/h during speed trials on October 27, and the CMRS permits operations under Grade of Automation 2 at up to 80 km/h or the Automatic Train Protection system limit with a 60 km/h cap on platforms.
  • The clearance is conditional and requires BMRCL to complete staff training, ensure maintenance and safety systems are fully ready, and to closely monitor the first month of revenue service and submit a report on observations and corrective actions.
  • Karnataka leaders say Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the stretch on November 15 but central representatives have not yet formally confirmed the date.
  • Opening the elevated section will expand Namma Metro from about 96.10 km to roughly 103.60 km and improve south‑to‑central Bengaluru links while the remaining 13.8 km of the Pink Line remains an underground corridor that must still be completed.
