CMRS Begins Final Safety Inspection for Mumbai Metro Line 2B Phase 1

A positive audit would allow passenger service on the 5.4 km ChemburMankhurd section before year’s end.

Overview

  • The CMRS team is assessing the Mandale–Diamond Garden stretch, which includes Diamond Garden, Shivaji Chowk, BSNL Metro, Mankhurd and Mandale stations.
  • MMRDA says it has completed all rectifications flagged in earlier inspections covering overhead electrics, signalling, track geometry, station safety and emergency systems.
  • Approval would clear MMRDA to begin commercial operations by December 2025, with the rest of Line 2B targeted for completion in 2027.
  • When fully built at 23.6 km with 20 stations, the corridor will connect to the Western and Eastern Express Highways, suburban rail, the Monorail and Metros 2A, 3 and 4, with BEML six‑coach trains based at Mandale depot.
  • Construction has been slowed by utility shifting, traffic management constraints and pandemic disruptions, contributing to schedule pressure.
