CME Sets Oct. 13 Launch for Options on Solana and XRP Futures

The move responds to record futures activity, signaling a push for institutional-grade hedging tools.

  • CME Group announced options on SOL and XRP futures are slated for Oct. 13, pending regulatory approval.
  • The suite will cover standard and micro contracts with expiries offered on business days as well as monthly and quarterly schedules, with Trading at Settlement enabled for SOL and Micro SOL futures.
  • Since March, Solana futures have traded over 540,000 contracts totaling about $22.3 billion in notional value, with August records of roughly 9,000 ADV and 12,500 in open interest.
  • Since May, XRP futures have surpassed 370,000 contracts and $16.2 billion notional, with August records including about 6,600 ADV and open interest reported near $942 million.
  • Liquidity providers Cumberland (DRW) and FalconX plan to support the launch, and initial price reaction in SOL and XRP was limited.
