CME Group Sets Oct. 13 Launch for Options on Solana and XRP Futures, Pending Regulatory Approval

The move responds to rising institutional demand following record trading in the underlying futures.

Overview

  • CME plans to list options on both standard and micro Solana and XRP futures with daily, monthly, and quarterly expirations.
  • The announced launch date remains contingent on regulatory clearance, with initial trading expected after a short review period later in October.
  • Since debut, more than 540,000 Solana futures (over $22 billion notional) and 370,000 XRP futures (about $16.2 billion notional) have traded.
  • August set records as Solana futures averaged 9,000 contracts daily with open interest around 12,500, while XRP averaged 6,600 daily with 9,300 open interest.
  • Liquidity providers Cumberland and FalconX will support the new options, and CME shares rose $2.51 to $262.33 after the announcement.
