CMA Secures Ticketmaster Pledge for Clearer Pricing After Oasis Ticket Furor

The regulator reports a year-long inquiry found no algorithmic pricing with enforcement possible for noncompliance.

Overview

  • Ticketmaster must give fans at least 24 hours’ notice if standing tickets will use differentiated pricing tiers.
  • Buyers in online queues will see more upfront information about ticket prices before checkout.
  • Potentially misleading premium labels such as “platinum” will be dropped after Oasis tickets were sold at roughly 2.5 times the standard price without added benefits.
  • The CMA issued no fine but warned it could take action if the agreed changes are not implemented.
  • Ticketmaster says the commitments are voluntary and maintains that event prices are set by artists, representatives or promoters, following a probe triggered by complaints of prices jumping from about £150 to over £350.
