Overview
- Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay made his first official visit to Pudukottai on Monday, Nov. 2, arriving at Tiruchirappalli by special flight and travelling by road to hold a public roadshow and a government function.
- At the Collectorate event the chief minister inaugurated a redeveloped bus stand reported to cost ₹23.25 crore that includes 60 bays, 74 shops and passenger facilities, and he opened 44 completed schemes worth about ₹68.31 crore while laying foundations for 70 new works estimated at ₹11.72 crore.
- Officials and multiple outlets reported that welfare assistance was handed to thousands of residents during the visit, but figures differ across reports — one set gives ₹62.73 crore to 13,676 beneficiaries while other reports say the total exceeded ₹100 crore for about 14,000 people.
- Local authorities mobilised an extensive security operation for the trip, deploying more than 4,000 police personnel and anti-sabotage teams along the Tiruchi airport–Pudukottai route, and the planned venue was shifted late on Sunday to an annexe at the District Collectorate.
- The visit was widely framed as a political mobilization by the ruling TVK ahead of expected by-elections in Viralimalai and other vacant seats after several former AIADMK MLAs resigned and joined TVK, a dynamic that could shape campaign planning and local development promises.
