Overview
- The Borukura railway overbridge was formally inaugurated on August 14 by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma after nearly five years of construction at a cost of about Rs 69 crore.
- Officially dedicated to medieval ruler Kumar Bhaskar Varma, the bridge’s naming drew praise from the All Assam Kalita Community for honoring regional heritage.
- The Rs 576 crore package launched on District Day included completed works such as 37 paved roads, new electrical substations at Gopal Bazar, Balitara, Chatma and Milan Bazar, and a solid waste management project.
- Foundation stones were laid for 20 new ventures including a Ghograpar rail overbridge, a town drinking-water scheme, a 30,000-sapling Urban Forest Project, a new auditorium, a modern clock tower, smart streetlights and a Rs 30 crore water resources initiative.
- Local and state officials including MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah and ministers Chandra Mohan Patowary and Narayan Deka said detailed execution timelines for the announced projects will be finalized in the coming months.
