CM Rekha Gupta Inaugurates Expanded Delhi Metro Museum at Supreme Court Station

The new showcase links the Metro's three-decade journey to Delhi's clean-air drive, including a push to electrify the bus fleet by 2026.

Overview

  • The museum opens to visitors on December 19, operating 10 am to 4 pm Tuesday to Sunday with a Rs 10 entry fee.
  • Phase I spans about 12,000 square feet with more than 50 panels, simulators, tunnel-boring and launching girder models, a mock tunnel, an Operations Control Centre model, quiz zones and a souvenir shop.
  • The facility replaces the original museum at Patel Chowk, which has closed after welcoming visitors since its 2008 launch.
  • Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Metro reduces dependence on private vehicles and helps curb pollution, citing an approximately 400 km network with 289 stations serving 3.5–3.7 million daily riders.
  • Gupta used the event to highlight transport policy, noting about 3,500 government buses are already electric and setting a goal of a fully electric bus fleet by the end of 2026 with incentives for EV purchases and stricter measures for CNG and petrol vehicles.
