Overview
- Cloudflare announced cloudflare.id and Cloudflare Wallets on Tuesday, giving AI assistants persistent, bot-readable web identities and wallets that hold dollar-pegged stablecoins with optional spending limits and merchant whitelists.
- cloudflare.id supplies a permanent web-address identity that merchants can use to verify an agent is acting for a specific person or organization while allowing users to remain pseudonymous if they choose.
- Cloudflare Wallets are funded by bank transfers that are converted into stablecoins and connect to the open x402 protocol so agents can trigger automatic USDC payments settled on Base without traditional login or checkout flows.
- Cloudflare is pushing standards and integrations with firms including Coinbase, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Experian and GoDaddy and says additional products such as a Monetization Gateway and expanded Agents SDK support are in development.
- Industry research projects large economic upside for agent-driven commerce but also flags consumer worry about fraud, unauthorized purchases and difficulty reversing transactions, putting pressure on merchants and regulators to build fraud controls and buyer protections.
